'El Jefe' se prepara para Bilbao
Bruce Springsteen convierte hoy San Mamés en el templo del rock en el primero de la serie de cinco conciertos que dará en España

Seis años después de su estreno con los Rolling Stones, San Mamés vuelve a abrir sus puertas a la música popular encarnada en la figura de un músico convertido en el mayor icono y catalizador de masas de una forma de entender rock casi en desuso. La que, con vitola implícita de autenticidad americana, prima la comunión musical colectiva por encima del gigantismo escénico del que son presa coetáneos como U2 o unos Stones cuyas giras han devenido casi en parques temáticos vendibles al mejor postor, aunque sean jeques o banqueros.
Por tercera vez en poco más de año y medio (o cuarta si contamos su concierto de octubre de 2006 en Santander), Springsteen retorna para demostrar su capacidad de trasladar a los grandes auditorios la experiencia física y anímica que supone ver a una banda de rock de primer orden en las distancias cortas. El rockero de Asbury lo hace casi aprovechando la inyección de energía que supuso la grabación y macrogira ulterior de 'Magic'. Con su impulso, su maduro estado de gracia y animado por el ambiente de cambio fruto del ascenso de Obama, Springsteen concibió 'Working on a dream', un álbum de corte más pop que vio la luz en enero, sólo quince meses después de su entrega previa, algo insólito en su carrera junto la A Street Band.
Springsteen anticipó en febrero que su séptima gira oficial junto a su banda no sería tan exigente como la precedente, pero el hecho es que, desde sus inicios a finales de febrero con sus habituales sesiones de probatura en su cuartel general de Asbury Park, hasta el segundo tramo final americano en noviembre, 'El Jefe' y su banda han encadenado casi ochenta macrobolos.
En Bilbao se inicia hoy el primero de los cinco recitales españoles con los que se cierra el periplo europeo iniciado en mayo en Holanda. En su último concierto de julio pasado en Anoeta el papel se agotó con cuatro meses de antelación. Pese a que aún logre hitos como esas 150.000 personas que le vieron el 27 de junio en el festival de Glastonbury, Springsteen no está llenando con tanta alegría los lugares que acogen sus ceremonias. Aún quedan algunos centenares de entradas tanto para Bilbao como para sus últimos cuatro conciertos de Sevilla (martes), Benidorm (miércoles), Valladolid (jueves) y Santiago (viernes).
Pletórico de voz
Como es natural, a sus muy bien llevados 59 años, Bruce no transmite la rebelde energía de antaño, pero aún así es capaz de elevar el barómetro sentimental y anímico del rock durante casi tres exigentes horas en las que acostumbra a estar pletórico de voz, actitud, presencia y capacidad comunicativa. Derrochando una energía contagiosa, Springsteen se agita, fuerza su 'rajo' y se da baños de multitud con el personal de las primeras filas al que se compensa sus largas horas de espera con pulseras que garantizan su posición de privilegio.
Su despliegue físico no es el mismo del que hablaba Dave Marsh en 'Bruce Springsteen on tour' (RBA), pero conserva el carisma y esa mística rockera, romántica y urbana que está implícita en su repertorio clásico. Springteen suele tener que tirar del eficaz grupo de amigos con los que ha envejecido. A estas alturas, después de tres décadas y casi dos años de gira continuada, La E Street Band suena como un maquinaria profesional, pero cuyo engranaje comienza a resentirse.
Los chicos de la E
En abril de 2008 murió el teclista Danny Federici, a quien le dedica su último disco 'The Last Carnival'. El veterano saxofonista negro Clarence Clemmons está cada vez más disminuido y, tan pronto como acabe el tour, deberá operarse de la columna y estar un año de reposo. El baterista fundador Max Weinberg sufre de las articulaciones y debido a su pluriempleo en el show de Connan O'Brien, ha sido sustituido en varias citas de la gira por su hijo de 18 años Jay a quien ya comparan con Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters). «Es el trabajo de verano que cualquiera quisiera tener», dijo el chaval tras convertirse en el segundo batería en los 35 años de historia de la E Street.
Además, la guitarrista y señora de Springsteen Patty Scialfa también se ha perdido algunas fechas europeas por problemas familiares y lesiones, lo que ha dado más protagonismo a la violinista y guitarrista acústica de la 'sessions band' Soozie Tyrrell. Apoyada en los estribillos con testosterona de Bruce, la E Street Band reproduce su sonido de los ochenta sostenida en los solventes Garry Tallent (bajo), Charles Giordano (teclas) y Roy Bittan (piano), junto a los mástiles de Steve Van Zandt y el gran Nils Lofgren que insertan solos puente y empastan de electricidad guitarrera el sonido adulto y casi AOR del combo al que se han incorporado a los coros Curtis King y Cindy Mizelle
Sobre un escenario más bien austero apoyado en pantallas que focalizan la atención remarcando el liderazgo de 'El Jefe' en su papel de chamán del rock americano de corte clásico, Springteen ofrece un show sudoroso en el que desgrana un listado de unos treinta temas.
Su largo rodaje y los preparativos que acostumbran a hacer en Asbury Park antes de cada tour, permiten a Springsteen y a su banda cambiar casi a diario su repertorio. Se mantienen una serie de canciones fijas mientras van saliendo y entrando temas viejos y versiones de clásicos conectados con la historia musical
Si en 'Magic Tour' pasó amplia revista al disco que lo propició , en su actual gira, Springsteen pasa de puntillas sobre su último disco 'Working on a dream'. Pero habrá una buena representación de temas históricas en la treintena de piezas que interpretará El Jefe en Bilbao.

commento da un user di GL CITAZIONEI got in line at 3pm but still did not make the pit, luckily I had a hat, a fan and some water but my smarter friends stayed in the hotel I could have had a spot on the second rail as I missed by about a 100 but deciided on a long sit down instead
Show started around 10pm (sleepy time) and it cooled off by then and was probably the cause of the water vapour that caused tears in my ears as Bruce and the boys took to the stage - god it had been way too long since I last saw them I hope they forgive me.
Ties was great as an opener and allowed for some pogoing though i'm not quite back in Quaddy/SSR tour form, hate Hungry Heart with a passion (it replaced INCIDENT on the setlist once and is therefore permanently blacklisted) so watched the song from one of the open air urinals that hopefully MartyR reported on!.
Odd to see the old Seeds/J99/Ghost 3 pack gone but Because the Night was great to see Nils twiirling again causing another tear or two!
Signs well what can one say you always hold your breath awaiting INCIDENT or DAN so to hear Santa was truly bizarre
(it has been played more on a summer tour than INCIDENT). TR should not be a sgn according to rule 23 (allowed signs)
of SetListVision but Bus Stop was great love the song and it also name checks my favourite moderator JoanFontaine!
so a mixture of bizarre, so-so and great and I was ok with that
But then when Bruce started up with My Love will not let you down I lost it and contravened rule 1 of SetLiistVisiion (songe permissable for guys to cry to) this has always had a special place in my heart since Bruce opened Orlando 2000 wiith it and at that point I knew wanted to see many more shows - the next day i bought tiickets to every show I could and thus entered the last 9 years of craziness....
another outdoor bathroom break duriing sunny day (texted after washing my hands!) and from there only Radio Nowhere was a surprise until the encore when Bruce picked up a sign for You Never Can Tell now this was a great cover and if it is on youtube you should watch - charlie was great on accordian ( i cheered him since quaddy and ssr not here) and then bruce's waltz across the stage and back with Soozie was beautiful.
From there on it was the expected songs with Rosie as a sign replacing the dreaded Bobby Jean and by then iit was kike 1am and definitely sleepy time, stopped for a beer to let the crowd clear and finally around 2am made it to bed to get a few hours sleep before a flight to madrid and then seville where it s currently like a million degrees
